Shopping for your wedding dress is a key part of your wedding planning. With all the moving parts and details of planning your wedding, it’s important to know when to buy your wedding dress so that it arrives in time with no hiccups. For the bride who’s planning, we’re sharing a typical timeline for wedding dress shopping so you know when to start shopping and what to expect.
After You Get Engaged
Once you get engaged, you get to start planning your wedding! Before shopping for your wedding dress, be sure to have your date and venue set. These are likely the first things you’ll think of, but it’s important to have them done before shopping for your wedding dress. You’ll have an idea of what your wedding day will look like, and you’ll be better able to picture yourself on your wedding day.
8-10 Months Ahead
When you start shopping for your wedding dress, you’ll need to give yourself plenty of time. Part of this is because you’ll likely want some time to shop, but the main key is that you need to give your designer time to craft your dress. From sourcing materials to creating your high quality wedding dress, the entire process takes several months. This is going to be even slightly longer with supply chain issues, so it’s always a good idea to shop earlier than you think you need to.
2 Months Before
Two months ahead of the wedding, once your dress arrives, you’ll start the alterations process. Whether you’re getting a few minor changes, like hemming your dress or taking it slightly in, or you’re altering something major like changing your neckline, you’ll have 3-4 fittings over the course of two months to ensure the dress is fitting perfectly.
After alterations, your dress is ready and there’s nothing left to do but wear it! If you’re at the beginning of your wedding dress journey and are starting to shop, book an appointment at Kay’s Kreations, and we’ll help you find your dream wedding dress.
